Despite the ever-changing times around us, allow our team to share some joy of things that we CAN and HAVE changed within this past 2019 year here at All Kids Pediatric Dentistry!

2019 was a marvelous year for us at All Kids Pediatric Dentistry!
Our very own Dr. Mujica was blessed with the opportunity to give back and bring encouragement through a Thanksgiving dental outreach mission trip to Heart for Africa’s Project Canaan in Eswatini, Africa.
Over the course of her week-long visit, Dr. Mujica was able to help over 215 children of Project Canaan with dental needs through dental exams, cleanings, x-rays, and, in very limited cases, treatment.
The majority of her time was spent at the onsite El Rofi Medical Centre, assisted by Anthony, Project Canaan’s full-time nurse, as well as her husband Ethan.
During her time there, she was surprised to find only a small handful of them had cavities! Typically, at her practice in Charlotte, she finds at least 30% of patients with cavities. At Project Canaan she found less than 15 children had cavities – a rate of roughly 7%!
What is their secret???
First, we cannot discount all the POSITIVE ENERGY, LOVE, and HOPE these children have!
While this is not a formal and comprehensive study, Dr. Mujica believes the reason is that the children at Project Canaan eat a well-balanced diet of non-sugary cereals, fresh milk, plain yogurt, and fresh veggies! Most of which is grown on site!
The children consume very little sugar – no juice, only fruit! On the very rare occasion that the children are given sweets, it is just ONE cookie given twice a week and ONE serving of ice cream once a month. In the US, that may seem quite unbelievable. It was amazing what only a few changes in one’s diet can do!
Dr. Mujica and her family were so grateful to have this experience as well as forge friendships!
